If insured machinery suffers a breakdown, notify Webber Insurance or the insurer as soon as practical.
What should I do immediately? #
Where safe:
- Stop using damaged machinery.
- Prevent further damage.
- Isolate unsafe equipment.
- Arrange emergency assistance where required.
- Preserve damaged parts where practical.
Do not dispose of important damaged components before the insurer has had an opportunity to assess them.
What information may be required? #
The insurer can request:
- Make and model.
- Serial number.
- Age of machinery.
- Description of the breakdown.
- Date of failure.
- Photographs.
- Technician reports.
- Repair quotations.
- Replacement quotations.
- Service records.
- Maintenance history.
Can I authorise repairs immediately? #
Emergency work may be necessary to prevent further loss or maintain safety.
For significant repairs or replacement, contact Webber Insurance or the insurer before committing to major costs where practical.
The insurer may want:
- An inspection.
- An engineering report.
- Alternative repair quotations.
What if the machinery cannot be repaired? #
The insurer will consider the basis of settlement under the policy.
This may involve replacement or another settlement basis depending on:
- Machinery age.
- Policy wording.
- Insured value.
- Availability of equivalent equipment.
What about lost income? #
If Business Interruption or another consequential loss section may apply, keep detailed records of:
- Lost production.
- Lost sales.
- Temporary equipment costs.
- Additional labour.
- Other increased expenses.
These losses may need to be assessed separately from the machinery repair.
