Business Insurance (also known as Business Pack Insurance) is a bundled policy designed to provide a range of covers under one policy, tailored to suit small to medium-sized businesses. It’s a flexible and cost-effective way to combine multiple insurance types into a single package based on your business needs.
Most insurers offer modular options, meaning you choose which sections you need. Common cover sections include:
- Property Damage – Covers buildings, contents, stock, and fixtures against risks like fire, theft, storm, or vandalism.
- Business Interruption – Covers loss of income and increased operating expenses if your business is interrupted due to an insured event (e.g. fire).
- Theft – Covers burglary or theft of contents and stock (usually excluding money unless added separately).
- Money – Covers loss or theft of money from your premises, in transit, or at a private residence.
- Glass – Covers internal and external glass (shopfronts, mirrors, signage) against accidental breakage.
- Public & Products Liability– Covers your legal liability for injury or property damage caused to others due to your business activities or products.
- General Property (Portable Equipment) – Covers tools, laptops, or equipment taken off-site or used on the move.
- Machinery Breakdown – Covers repair or replacement costs if machinery, such as refrigerators or compressors, unexpectedly breaks down.
- Electronic Equipment – Covers electronic devices (such as computers and POS systems) against breakdown or damage.
- Employee Dishonesty – Covers loss caused by theft or fraud by employees.
- Tax Audit – Covers professional fees incurred if the ATO audits your business.
- Goods in Transit – Covers stock or goods being transported against loss or damage.
- Cyber Insurance (Optional Add-on) – Some business packs now allow you to add cyber coverage for data breaches or ransomware attacks.
Business Insurance is different from Professional Indemnity or Management Liability, as these cover types traditionally protect against financial and legal risks. Business Insurance generally focuses on the tangible things you rely on every day.Â
