Professional Indemnity Insurance is generally the main cover considered by Town Planners, but it may not address every risk faced by the business.
Depending on how your business operates, you may also need to consider:
- Public Liability Insurance: Can cover claims involving personal injury or property damage arising from your business activities. This may be relevant when attending sites, council offices, public meetings or client premises.
- Cyber Insurance: Can assist with cyber incidents, data breaches, system interruption and associated response costs.
- Business Insurance: Can cover office contents, computers, equipment, property and business interruption, depending on the policy selected.
- Management Liability Insurance: Can cover certain risks associated with managing a company and employing staff, including employment practices and allegations against directors or officers.
- Commercial Motor Insurance: May be required for vehicles owned by the business or used extensively for work.
- Corporate Travel Insurance: May be relevant where directors or employees travel for projects, conferences or other business purposes.
- Workers Compensation Insurance: May be required if you employ workers. Requirements differ between states and territories.
- Personal Accident and Illness Insurance: May provide financial support where a self-employed person cannot work because of an accident or illness.
Not every Town Planner will need every type of insurance. The appropriate combination depends on your business structure, employees, equipment, travel, contractual obligations and the work you perform.
