After an insurance claim is lodged, the insurer will review the circumstances, the policy and the information available.
Depending on the type and complexity of the claim, the insurer may appoint or involve:
- A claims officer
- An assessor or investigator
- A loss adjuster
- A repairer or other service provider
- A claims lawyer
- A technical, medical or professional expert
Can I communicate directly with the insurer or appointed adviser? #
Yes.
Direct communication can be necessary so the insurer or appointed adviser can obtain information, understand the circumstances and progress the claim.
For Professional Indemnity and some other liability claims, an insurer-appointed lawyer may communicate directly with you. It is important to respond to requests and keep appropriate records of the information provided.
If you receive correspondence or requests directly from an insurer, assessor, lawyer or other claims provider, keep Webber Insurance copied in where possible so we remain across the claim.
How can Webber Insurance assist? #
Webber Insurance can help:
- Lodge or present the claim
- Communicate with the insurer
- Follow up progress
- Explain requests for information
- Address issues that arise
- Keep track of important correspondence
The insurer remains responsible for decisions about policy cover, claim management and settlement.
What should I do while the claim is being assessed? #
Provide requested information as promptly and accurately as possible, keep copies of correspondence and supporting documents, and tell us about any significant new development.
Do not assume a claim has been accepted until the insurer confirms its position. Avoid agreeing to a settlement or making admissions about liability without first checking with the insurer or appointed adviser.
Contact our team if you need assistance with an existing claim.
