Yes, but trailers and tools are usually insured differently.
Trailers #
A trailer can often be included under a Commercial Motor policy as a separately listed item.
The insurer may require information such as:
- Trailer type
- Registration
- Value
- Intended use
- Carrying capacity
- Permanently fitted equipment or accessories
Whether a particular trailer can be included under the motor policy depends on the insurer and how it is used.
Tools and equipment #
Tools, stock and portable equipment carried in a vehicle should not be assumed to be covered by the motor policy.
Some Commercial Motor policies may provide a limited benefit, but the limit and conditions vary.
More comprehensive protection may be available through General Property Insurance.
Theft cover can be subject to conditions involving:
- Locked vehicles
- Secure storage
- Evidence of forced entry
- Overnight storage
- Where the vehicle was parked
- Individual item limits
- Specified high-value items
Tell us what is normally carried in the vehicle and its approximate replacement value so the available cover can be reviewed.
