Land Surveyor claims can arise where another party alleges that surveying work was inaccurate or incomplete and caused financial loss.
Examples include the following.
Boundary errors #
A surveyor may be alleged to have incorrectly identified a property boundary.
This can contribute to disputes involving buildings, fences, retaining walls, driveways or other improvements constructed in the wrong location.
Construction set-out errors #
A claim can arise where a building, structure or other work is allegedly set out at the wrong:
- Location.
- Height.
- Level.
- Alignment.
- Distance from a boundary.
Rectification can potentially be expensive once construction has commenced.
Measurement or calculation errors #
Incorrect measurements, coordinates or calculations can affect plans, construction work or decisions made by other project participants.
Easement or encroachment issues #
A surveyor may face allegations that an easement, encroachment or other property constraint was incorrectly identified or omitted.
Survey plan errors #
Errors in plans or documentation may result in additional work, delays or disputes.
These are examples only.
Whether a particular claim is covered depends on the facts and the Professional Indemnity policy.
Claims and circumstances that could reasonably lead to a claim should be notified promptly.
