There is no single insurance limit that suits every Construction Contractor. Appropriate limits depend on the work performed, project values, contract requirements and the potential severity of a claim.
Limits to review #
- Public Liability: consider contractual minimums, project locations, surrounding property, public access and the largest foreseeable injury or property damage claim.
- Contract Works: consider the full project value, materials, existing structures and any escalation, debris removal or professional fee allowances.
- Plant, equipment and motor: use values that match the settlement basis in the policy and review financed or hired equipment separately.
- Professional Indemnity: where design or professional services are provided, consider project size, rectification exposure, contractual obligations and whether defence costs are inside or outside the limit.
Policy structure matters #
Check whether a limit applies per claim, per event or in the aggregate for the policy period. Sublimits may apply to particular hazards or extensions and can be much lower than the headline policy limit.
Review limits whenever the business takes on larger projects, changes activities, signs a new contract or buys additional equipment. Webber Insurance can help compare the exposure, contractual requirements and available insurer options.
