Your insurance cover is determined by the complete policy documentation, not by one document alone.
The main documents to review are usually:
Policy Schedule #
Your Policy Schedule contains information specific to your insurance policy, including:
- The insured name
- Period of insurance
- Sections of cover selected
- Limits or sums insured
- Excesses
- Insured property or activities
- Endorsements or special conditions
Policy Wording #
The Policy Wording explains how the insurance operates.
It sets out matters such as:
- What the policy covers
- Definitions
- Exclusions
- Conditions
- Claims requirements
- Your obligations as the insured
Endorsements #
Endorsements can amend the standard Policy Wording.
They may add cover, remove cover or change particular terms and conditions, so they should always be read together with the Policy Schedule and Policy Wording.
Other documents #
Depending on the type of insurance, additional documents may also form part of the policy or provide important information about the cover.
A Certificate of Currency is useful as evidence that insurance is in place, but it does not normally provide the full details of your cover, exclusions and conditions.
If you are unsure whether a particular activity, property or situation is covered, contact our team. We can help you identify the relevant sections of your policy documentation and, where necessary, obtain clarification from the insurer.
