To coincide with Cyber Security Awareness Month in the United States, this week sees the 2015 launch of Stay Smart Online Week.
Running from Monday the 13th of October through until Friday the 16th of October, this year’s theme is ‘Your Business is your business’, aimed at raising awareness for small businesses and individuals.
Stay Smart Online is the Australian Government’s online safety and security information service who provide many valuable resources designed to assist you in understanding the risks and actions that can be taken to protect personal and financial information when using the internet.
The Stay Smart Online Initiative has released a short guide in collaboration with Australia Post, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited, Commonwealth Bank, National Australia Bank, Westpac and Telstra developed to assist you in implementing some basic online practices to protect your personal information.
The great thing about this guide is that it will only take you a few minutes to read through the five simple steps of protecting your information online. This resource is particularly valuable for businesses who are entrusted with the personal information of their clients and suppliers.
The guide addresses areas such as:
- Passwords
- Backups
- Confidentiality
- Awareness
- Network and Device Security
- Feedback
Although some of the recommendations appear very simple, they are instrumental in protecting you and your business against a potential cyber threat.
We recommend you take 5 minutes to read through the guide and identify any of the areas in which you can improve your online security.
